Nethmi Vidanagama

Nethmi is currently studying a Bachelor of Medicine and Doctor of Medicine at Monash University.  Nethmi completed VCE in 2017 at Mac.Roberston Girls' High School and achieved an ATAR that placed her within the top 1% of the State.  When she is not gunning uni and working at Five, she volunteers her time at Embrace Education (a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to assisting disadvantaged high school students across Melbourne).  Did I tell you she is fluent in Japanese too? Seriously.

Sameer Khan

Sameer completed VCE in 2018 at Werribee Secondary College and achieved an ATAR that placed him within the top 1% of the State.  Sameer’s academic resume is as impressive as his all-rounded character. He was heavily involved with his school community, volunteered in numerous not-for-profit organisations over the years and even gained acceptance into the Access Monash Mentorship Program with the view of supporting socially and financially disadvantaged VCE students to gain access to higher education.  He is a true asset to Five and the community at large!

Steven Lam

Steven is currently studying a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)/Bachelor of Science at RMIT University.  Steven completed VCE at Overnewton Anglican Community College in 2016 and achieved an ATAR that placed him within the top 2% of the state.  School was such a breeze for Steven that he probably spent more time volunteering his time helping other students with their homework than doing his own homework!  Steven loves public speaking and enjoys a good debate.  Steven, what is the meaning of life? Go!

Alvin Nguyen

Alvin is currently studying a Bachelor of Science at the University of Melbourne.  Alvin completed VCE in 2018 at Overnewton Anglican Community College and achieved an ATAR that placed him within the top 5% of the State.  He loves Maths and the Sciences because he loves being able to get definitive answers. If only life was made up of yeses, nos and maybes ...poor Alvin.

Richard Le

Richard is currently studying a Bachelor of Applied Science/Physiotherapy at LaTrobe University. Richard completed VCE at Melbourne High School in 2015 and achieved an ATAR score that placed him within the top 6% of the state.  Richard likes to sing and has played the violin since he was 7.  Outside of recording his own classical album, his hope is to work in the neuro-physiotherapy or paediatrics unit in a public hospital one day.  With a soft and musical heart, we’re sure he’ll inspire anyone he tutors in a rockin-style!

Shiyaam Sharabinth

Shiyaam is currently studying a Bachelor of Science at the University of Melbourne. Shiyaam completed VCE in 2013 at Caroline Chisholm Catholic College and obtained an ATAR score that placed him within the top 6% of the state. He loves teaching maths and is hoping to graduate as an engineer. Shiyaam's so helpful that he wrote up a draft version of this profile for us. Maybe he's worried about what we were going to write - yet we can't find any dirt on him. Even his Facebook wall looks clean. What are you hiding behind that smile Shiyaam?

Amanjit Kaur

Amanjit is currently studying a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) at The University of Melbourne. She completed VCE in 2011 at Marian Secondary College. Although Amanjit is firm with her students, she's still able to win her students over with her friendly demeanour. We have been told that she has an interest in cooking, however, we're yet to taste any of her delicacies...

Yurui Cherry Wang (Cherry)

Cherry is currently studying a Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Melbourne.  Cherry completed VCE at Mac.Robertson Girls’ High School in 2017 and achieved an ATAR that placed her within the top 1% of the State.  Other than smashing every domain of life - be it in music, sports, debating and languages other than English, Cherry is also a natural leader who is well versed through her leadership roles during School.  Thankful and grateful for all the opportunities that she has been given, she is keen to give back to the community she is from, loves and desires to see thrive through spending her hours not smashing life, but tutoring other students.  A noble cause some would say!

Kavisan Thavarajah

Kavisan (Kav) is currently studying a Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Actuarial Science at Monash University.  Kav completed VCE in 2016 at Melbourne High School and achieved an ATAR that placed him within the top 2% of the State.  He is admittedly competitive with his academic pursuits and even more so, with his cricket playing. He also confesses that he is a passionate Bombers supporter.  I know. We have all had to withhold our judgment also.

Anuj kumar

Anuj is currently studying a Bachelor of Biomedicine at The University of Melbourne. Anuj completed VCE in 2016 at Melbourne High School and achieved an ATAR that placed him within the top 3% of the state. A peculiar fact you need to know about Anuj is that he loves signing up for a good club. From Air Force Cadet Clubs to Reptiles, Amphibians and Fish Clubs, he has done it all!

David Cheng

David is currently studying a Bachelor of Biomedical Science and Bachelor of Engineering at Monash University.  David completed VCE in 2018 at Westbourne Grammar School and achieved an ATAR that placed him within the top 3% of the State.  He is a true idealist and wants to change the world. He is also practical and taking steps to see his idealism to fruition. He is currently building a website with free resources to students to assist them with their exam preparation in his spare time.  You should ask him about it!

Karthikeyan Ponraj

Karthikeyan (Karthik) is currently studying a Bachelor of Biomedical Science at Monash University.  Karthik completed VCE in 2018 at Suzanne Cory High School and achieved an ATAR that placed him within the top 4% of the State.  He is a true leader and has stepped into various leadership roles throughout his schooling. We asked him what the key to academic success is.  His answer was essentially “to have a plan”. If only we knew this earlier! Dohhhhh!

Shahani Munaff

Shahani is currently studying a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology Major) at the University of Melbourne.  Shahani completed VCE at Al-Taqwa College in 2017 and achieved an ATAR score that placed her within the top 5% of the State.  As a student who would previously shy away from asking questions herself, she is particularly passionate about being student-orientated in her approach to meet students where they are at.  Who would have thought that this little shy girl would go on to become the State finalist in VCAA & Australia-British Society’s Plain English Speaking Award?! She is an example of #whenallthingsarepossible

Ilma Faiz

Ilma is currently studying a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Melbourne.  Ilma completed VCE in 2017 at Werribee Secondary College. She is an aspiring teacher and loves “words”.  She loves to read words, write words and play with words. We’ve noticed that she isn’t a huge fan of playing on words though.  Another bad dad joke.

Rathuka Vasanthan

Rathuka (Rath) is currently studying a Bachelor of Science at The University of Melbourne. Rath completed VCE at Werribee Secondary College in 2013. Rath is wanting to pursue a career in teaching ultimately.  She has been told and is in our humble opinion, a born teacher. Outside of teaching, Rath is incredibly musical. She plays the piano and can pick up most new instruments. Oh, other than the Cimbalom. Yes, Cimbalom. Google it!

Binari Wijesundara

Binari is currently studying a Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine at Monash University. Binari completed VCE at Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School in 2015 and achieved an ATAR that placed her within the top 1% of the State. Binari loves to work with children and has dreams to become a paediatrician. When she’s not studying, she fills her time watching probably-not-so-edifying reality tv shows and Netflix.  We have agreed to not discuss the specifics of what that would entail.

Manasha Kumarasiri

Manasha is currently studying a Bachelor of Biomedicine at The University of Melbourne. Manasha completed VCE at Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School on a full academic scholarship in 2016 and achieved an ATAR score that placed her within the top 1% of the State. Manasha is passionate about spreading her knowledge and insight to Five's students. Outside of her academic pursuits, she is also an activist for Social Justice. Hashtag the perfect tutor and role model.

Andrew Buttigieg

Andrew is currently studying a Masters of Teaching at the University of Melbourne.  Prior to his Masters’ degree, he studied a Bachelor of Science at Monash University.  Andrew completed VCE in 2014 at Caroline Chisholm College and achieved an ATAR that placed him within the top 5% of the state.  He told us that he was passionate about teaching when we interviewed him for a job at Five. We had our reservations that he was only saying so to get the job.  Time has past and he is #legit. He actually loves to teach and is the real deal!

Sharan Sharabinth

Sharan is currently studying a Bachelor of Commerce and Engineering at Monash University.  Sharan completed VCE at Suzanne Cory High School in 2017 and achieved an ATAR that placed him within the top 4% of the State.  Sharan tells us that he wants to work at Five because he loves helping others out.  We believe this is true.  However, we also secretly believe that he wants to work at Five because his clever Engineering student brother, Shiyaam, also works at Five.  We think Shiyaam is Sharan’s role model.  Awwww!  Cute much?!

Yashna Amalsadiwala

Yashna is currently studying a Bachelor of Biomedicine at Monash University.  Yashna completed VCE at Suzanne Cory High School in 2017 and achieved an ATAR score that placed her within the top 6% of the State.  Yashna is so lovely in her disposition that she wins over the heart of all whom she meets (and tutors).   So great in her tuition ability, she even has the capacity to tutor who own younger siblings.  All of our other tutors offer her #respect as they have not been able to do the same.

Wendy Ma

Wendy is currently studying a Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) and Master of Pharmacy at Monash University.  Wendy completed VCE at Gilson College in 2017 and was voted into the role of Vice Captain of the School.  Outside of her academic pursuits and achievements, Wendy is also a table tennis pro.  Should she decide against a career in pharmacy, we propose getting her to lead the Australian Table Tennis Olympic Team.  Australia is clearly poorly represented at the moment and we believe Wendy may be just the solution!

Cynthia Tham

Cynthia is currently studying a Bachelor of Commerce at The University of Melbourne.  Cynthia completed VCE at Keilor Downs College in 2016. Cynthia is incredibly patient, calm and full of positivity.  She loves Maths and is methodical in her approach to tuition.  Cynthia enjoys working with children as she finds it particularly satisfying to see them overcome their weaknesses and grow in their knowledge and understanding.  Cynthia is …. just so lovely.

Roisin Greaney

Roisin is currently studying a Bachelor of Arts/Master of Secondary Education at LaTrobe University.  Roisin completed VCE in 2015 at Catholic Regional College Sydenham.  Roisin is passionate about education and would like to become an English teacher when she graduates from university. Roisin has been studying Indonesian since Year 7 and is able to speak and write in Indonesian. She is full of many hidden talents and eccentricities, including being able to touch the tip of her nose with her tongue.  She also enjoys reading mildly trashy romantic novels.
